2012 Doomsday Theories

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

2012 Doomsday theories are just that — theories. For centuries people have been ‘predicting’ the end of the world. Most recently the date is supposed to be Dec. 21st, 2012.

The reason this time has taken the spotlight as the end of days is due to the Mayan Long Count Calendar. Essentially, the Long Count Calendar is a time measurement system that organized the Mayan’s calendar into several cycles. The problem? This calendar goes no further than December 2012, which many people believe is the day when the world will end.

How does the world end in 2012?

There are tons of theories. Some say the Earth will experience a polar shift and that the Earth will begin to rotate on a different axis. If an event like this did happen it would bring untold misery to many through climate change, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In essence, the world as we know it would end. Since the Mayan’s were highly advanced in astrological dealings this is one of the strongest theories for why their calendar just ‘stops.’

Others, like the famous Nostradamus, say that after a period of terrible destruction a new age of peace and enlightenment will reign, but again, the result is the same – the world as we know it would end. Some others believe a secret organization will accomplish its goal of total world domination. Much of this paranoia, however, is not unlike what happened around a decade ago.

Remember Y2K?

All the world’s computers were supposed to stop working at midnight on 2000, therefore sending the world into total chaos? People stayed home New Years Eve and even more stocked up on extra supplies — just in case — a few forgotten numbers weren’t adjusted. Needless to say, we all survived and 2000 came and went without a hitch.

As a psychic I’ve seen a few of my clients growing concerned that the world will end soon and they ask about the 2012 theory. Fear often breeds more fear. But what’s even worse is fear that’s unfounded. So yes, while there are some legitimately scary things in life, chances are… the world ending in 2012 is not one of them. Of course, just like you, I can’t prove it until 2013.
